How to read the dates

CMS work runs on two calendars: - Federal fiscal year (FY) = Oct 1 – Sep 30. Inpatient (IPPS) rules use FY. FY 2026 = Oct 1 2025 – Sep 30 2026. - Calendar year (CY) = Jan 1 – Dec 31. Outpatient (OPPS) rules use CY.

Because CMS rules, measures, deadlines, and dollar figures change frequently, always confirm time-sensitive items against the linked primary source (cms.gov, qualitynet.cms.gov, federalregister.gov, ecfr.gov, data.cms.gov).
